Visit any early years setting and it is likely that you will see paintbrushes, paint, an easel, crayons, pencils, felt tips and many more mark making materials to enable young children to express themselves through the medium of visual art – rightly so.  How do music making opportunities compare to the visual art opportunities in your setting?

This training session will enable participants to further their understanding of:

  • The importance of music making in the Early Years
  • Effective planning for musical activities and opportunities linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage – supporting all areas of learning through music.

Primary Assessment Conference

Last year was a challenging time and so we look at what lessons can be learnt and seek to share ideas and inspiration for developing or enhancing practice. In addition to reflecting on the lessons and experiences of the last year and the transition to new statutory frameworks, we will spend the day exploring what has had impact and can make a positive difference for our children. Also included, time for sharing and networking. For more information and to book, please click here

Amy Cuddy / Body Language

Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” — standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy mindfulness course

To all staff and professionals working in LBHF, RBKC or Westminster

The Federation of Westminster Special Schools Training & Outreach Service has received funding for various mindfulness courses including  the free 8 week Cognitive Behavioural Therapy mindfulness course. This has already run in RBKC and Westminster, and they are now looking to run a course in Hammersmith & Fulham.

Any professional in a central service or charity as well as school or early years’ service may apply as long as you are working with children (age 4 or above)  and young people in LBHF, RBKC and Westminster.

They are looking for a host school in H&F and if you are interested in hosting an 8 week course please contact Carolyn Gelenter directly.

You will need to commit to the entire course if you decide to take up the offer.
Futher details about venue, dates and times for the H&F course as soon as they are available.

Completion of this course and an additional few months practice will also give you the prerequisites for attending a ‘.b’ or ‘paws.b’ run by Mindfulness in Schools Project, which is a 6-9 week mindfulness programme for children and young people. We have over 10 free places to offer for those courses as well. (Further training in ‘.b.’ or ‘paws .b’ is not a criteria for attending the 8 week CBT mindfulness course on offer  in H&F)

Please contact Carolyn for further details about any of the courses mentioned above.
