Strategic Financial Management – 12 March 2019

Ofsted Inspectors and Auditors assess the governors’ role in ensuring solvency and financial probity, that the school’s financial resources are managed effectively and how the pupil premium and other resources are used to overcome barriers to learning. This course will consider these issues and the requirement for online publication of the school’s pupil premium allocation and how it has been spent, plus the Schools’ Financial Value Statement (SFVS).

 

Participants will understand the governing board’s role in budget planning and monitoring and the effective management of financial resources including:

  • factors that affect the size of the school budget
  • the use of the pupil premium and sports funding
  • accountability and delegation arrangements, e.g. interpretation of termly financial reports, committee structures and terms of reference
  • audit arrangements
  • tools to assist governors in financial management e.g. benchmarking, SFVS expectations
  • useful questions to ask
